But sometimes a woman can be buoyed by knowing that she's going to help another woman, she's going to deter that person from harming or Doing what he did to another person is a strong reason for women to come forward .>> Well you asked what is different between now and 1991. One of the things that is the same in 1991 is that we hear all along well why didn't they come forward before? Why didn't you come forward? I mean that was exactly what I heard. Why didn't you come forward ten years before Well, it was clear when you saw how I was treated in 1991, why I didn't come forward 10 years before. But importantly, what I have found over the past 25 years is that women often say they come forward because they don't want this to happen to anyone else. They're motivated By this happening, not happening to anyone else, or they feel like this person is in such a position of power that I can possibly do something and prevent it from happening. So if women feel that they can prevent something bad from happening to someone else, if they feel like they can in fact change things that what they're gonna do is gonna be effective They're much more likely to come forward, and I think there's a lesson in that. If we can get our employers and our school administrators to give people the courage to come forward by presenting processes that are effective, that showed the promise of change That keep other people from being injured and the employers who have an understanding that this is behavior that is not only hurting your business because it hurts morale across the board but also hurting your in terms of economic cost. Then we won't be asking the question About why they didn't come forward. We will be asking the question of, why didn't we do more to motivate individuals to come forward. And then we'll be acting on that. [ MUSIC ]
