How this tech company’s digital tools transformed one man’s legal defense

Public. A stadium was started about 30 years ago, uh just in Cambridge in Massachusetts off the mit campuses. And fundamentally, we were back then, a business that was helping companies get to grips with the early days of the internet. Fast forward to language we use today we talk about ourselves as a digital business transformation company. So a company that's fundamentally helping establish businesses sustain competitive advantage in a world that is increasingly digital. Leading with purpose to me is all about how an organization does, what it was meant to do. So our purpose is helping people thrive in the brave pursuit of next. And essentially what that means for our people is helping ourselves look around corners particularly in a world that is changing so quickly. But more importantly, help our clients sustain that competitive advantage that helped them be successful in one world in a different context. And how we embody that is through sort of action. What we do every day, purpose to us is not just a philosophy that sits on a wall somewhere, but it's what you do on a regular basis. So we then embody that purpose through a set of values that we believe, demonstrate how you live them. So are you embracing the future? Are you engaging with openness? These are some of the values we feel that help people live our purpose day to day. I think about, you know, purpose is the reason you wake up every morning, right? It's the why, it's basically why you exist and why you do what you do every day. Purpose shouldn't be something that you can achieve tomorrow or in five years, right? It's, it's something that should always be aspirational. So our purpose helping people thrive in the brave pursuit of. It's not something that we'll ever get to and say, ok, it's done check, we help people achieve, you know, their, you know, we help people thrive in the brave pursuit of next. We're done. What we do is measure whether we're making progress towards that aspiration or not. So, one of the things we spend a lot of time doing is thinking about whether our work in the context of helping businesses be digital is making a difference in the world. And we think about that in the context of impact. Are we creating impact in the world? And most recently, we had an Oscar winning documentary filmmaker, make a film around our work for the Los Angeles Public Defenders Office where we basically help them use digital to essentially help. In one specific case, a gentleman called Johnny was about to be sent to prison for a long period of time and instead of going to prison got deferred, which is essentially got medical help because he was mentally, uh you know, challenged, uh and, and physically challenged with the legal system didn't recognize. And that process essentially of helping somebody with a disability through the work that we do. We measure that impact and that impact tells us whether we're moving closer to our purpose or not. Like, are we really helping people thrive for me? What we really want to be known for is being the company that helped our clients not just survive but thrive in a world that is increasingly digital because we were a company that was started in the early days, the internet helping some build some of the world's first online banks, some of the world's first online retail businesses. And from there to today helping companies really transform their business digitally. Our main ambition is that when this period in the world, when we're done with the spirit in the world where so many of these companies have made the transition to become digital. We were one of the companies that stands out as helping lead that transition.
