Accenture wants to get onboarding right - and that's just one reason the company's on Fortune's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For.

And hiring 100,000 people means that we are on boarding 100,000 people employees first few days with the company are absolutely critical with respect to their ability to answer the question, did I make the right choice by coming here? That's why we're constantly looking for new opportunities and new ways to evolve that experience. And that's why we're constantly innovating with respect to not only the two day new joint orientation program but the integration activities that take place across the whole first year, the digital experience role that I play and the team that supports our ambition inside of extensions Global I. T. Organization is to always be driving next generation experiences for our key constituents. Well of course one of our key constituents is Accenture's employees. And so we really viewed the opportunity for onboarding in particular as a place to think about those next generation experiences. Pre 2020 we had all kinds of different approaches to onboarding underway. We also had this team in the U. K. That was experimenting with how they might use virtual reality to add to or to complement the existing on boarding experience. So when the pandemic hit and we all had to flip to a digital modes for onboarding, we put the power of extension behind that experiment and that's what allowed us to really bring what is today, the one extension park onboarding campus to life. Okay, so if you're a new employee starting your new joiner experience with accenture, you're gonna grab your headset and go into our end floor in particular, we're going to one X Central Park there, they'll play learning games with small teams, they'll have time to explore all the different exhibits that exists throughout the park. Um, and they'll also have time to hang out with each other. So the first place you start is in a pretty nondescript virtual conference room. Your guide actually takes you down this hallway. You see this expansive world laid out ahead of you. You see this beautiful waterfall at the center of one X center park and as you go, you're learning along the way they form small teams. They'll play a learning game which is all based in a stimulation around a fictitious client. They're having payment issues, they're having talent issues, supply chain issues, data issues, they're having all the same issues that all the rest of our clients are having today. Now that's an applied learning experience that we could never bring to life at the scale or the level of consistency and quality in the real world that we can bring to life in the universe. When I came to extension and I started onboarding, we sat in these orientation classes that were on teams. And so we were in these video calls for eight hours at a time. And so for the first two days I sat in these eight hour video calls, there was 200 other people on the call. And so I was just watching, it was difficult to participate with 200 other people on the call and on the third day they said okay guys we're all going to log into the metaverse together and we'll be able to see each other as avatars And when I did that suddenly I was standing in a room you know with 200 other people that I was on boarding with it in the same situation I was in and it was like oh this is my team and so I got to talk to people 1 to 1 face to face, you know, even if we did look like cartoons, we were still having these face to face conversations and it helped to develop some deeper connections that helped us as we were doing our exercises and on boarding for the remaining period. It did allow all of us in different parts of the country and I was also there were some Canadians to you know to all be together in one place at a time when you know our covid protocols were really high and we really couldn't be together in one place, You know, as crazy as it sounds being a company of more than 700,000 people. Our company is built on relationships, some of our leadership essentials are as basic and as important as always do the right thing and care deeply for your people like this is the kind of language that is at the heart of who we are, it starts to create a stickiness that you know, makes people want to stay in today's language that's belonging, right. There is a sense that there is a home here for our people. There are communities for our people. There are relationships that quite honestly supersede the transactional nature of the day to day work. Mm hmm.
