 SPEAKER 1: A lot of people in the manufacturing industry are very excited about the potential of 5G. Already the factory floor is getting highly automated, and there are machines that assemble your iPhone or your car. And one of their biggest challenges is getting all the information and controlled data around the factory. Communications between the machines can be interrupted. With 5G, it's much easier for the machines to be freed from wires and from needing to be in the right place to get their Wi-Fi signal. So it gives the factories tremendous flexibility. There are already experiments showing that 5G on the factory floor can do a lot more to control machines precisely, make sure they stay safe. And it enables us to start to move to an era where artificial intelligence and machine learning programs are looking at the manufacturing process in very close detail, using visual sensors, temperature sensors, other things, feeding this back into the 5G network and hopefully optimizing the whole process and making the factory more efficient and more profitable. In addition to manufacturing, agriculture is another sector where 5G could be extremely useful and create all kinds of new capabilities. Agriculture is already undergoing a tech revolution that they call precision agriculture, which is using sensors to try and minimize the amount of water, fertilizer, and pesticides that have to be used to just the most efficient amounts. That's better for the planet, it lowers costs for the farms, and it creates the optimal crop. But 5G is going to enhance the capabilities of precision agriculture, because many more inexpensive sensors spread throughout farms will be able to report back into a server that can then use programs to help tell the farmers what needs to be done to make the crops grow most efficiently and most cost effectively. In areas like manufacturing and agriculture, there's already a rich vein of experiments and pilot programs going on all over the world. We can start to see some of the benefits, some of the obvious efficiencies and gains that those industries can make using 5G wireless technology. And if you start to think five or 10 years out, it really looks like the impact is going to be significant.

Ah, a lot of people. The manufacturing industry are very excited about the potential of five G. Now in South Korea, yeah, I try that, I use my 5G smartphone, I can look at the sports game from any angle I want, 360 degrees. So that's cool. Yeah, that's a brand new experience. That's a totally immersive experience. So it means a lot to the consumers, faster speeds and brand-new user experience. SPEAKER 2: Can you give us a rough sense of when the whole world will experience 5G? A small percentage of the world is experiencing it today, is that right? SPEAKER 1: Yeah. SPEAKER 2: How many years will it be before it's the dominant technology? SPEAKER 1: Yeah, so far there are 20 countries launching the 5G commercial services already. So the progress of the 5G deployment is much faster than we expected. Let me share with you some figures. With 4G, it took four years to achieve 700 million subscribers in the whole world. But with 5G, we believe that we'll be able to achieve that in just two years. So it's much faster. And let me share with you a map. So-- where's the map? Yeah, let me share with you a map. From that you can tell that South Korea is the first country to launch the 5G service. And after South Korea, China, United States, countries in the Europe and in the Middle East are all the early adopters. Yeah, you don't see China on this map, because China announced this service at October 30, and this map was finished at the middle of October. But China is obviously one of the fast movers in 5G. And for the short-term, we expect that to the end of next year, in just one year, we're going to see 60 countries launch their 5G services. And for your question, for the longer term, we expect that to the end of 2025, 58% of the world's population will be covered by 5G services.

I used my five Marshall. I can look at it the sports game from any angle. I want three and 62 graves, so that's cool. Yeah, that's a brand new experience. That's a totally immersive experience. So it means a lot to the consumers. Fastest Speed and Brett new user experience. Can you give us a rough sense of when the whole world will experience five G? What a small percentage of the world is experiencing is experiencing it today. Is that right? How many years will it be before it's the dominant technology? Yet so far, there are 20 countries on long since five commercial service is already so, um, the progress of the five deployment is much faster than we expected. Let me share with you some figures with four g. It took four years to achieve 700 million subscribers in hawala, but with five g would believe that will be able to achieve that in just a two years. So it's much faster and uh, let me share with you a map. Yeah, I'm sure. To a map from back. [MUSIC PLAYING] SPEAKER 1: What should be an ideal global 5G landscape, and what should US and China key players to work towards that? SPEAKER 2: That's a great question, Jennifer. I think the problem now is-- You have one minute. The problem now is there's just not-- there's not a lot of trust, right? So the problem is, since there's not trust between the governments, there's not trust in companies. And this is a big problem. It's going to be a bigger problem going forward when we talk about things like quantum computing, which was mentioned earlier, and artificial intelligence. So I have modestly proposed that we need sort of a third-party organization to look at some of these complex technologies, something like the IAEA does for the nuclear industry, and try to get the issue out of, sort of, government to government conflict and government trust, and look at the underlying technologies and focus on that, and focus on ways to ensure that the technology can be trusted. Because the problem is that the geopolitics of the issues around 5G are really tough to solve between the countries because of this trust issue. And so I think in an ideal world there would be more collaboration globally on setting standards around 5G security and on raising the bar for everybody, and then looking at solutions that involve technology and aren't so politicized across the board. And I think that's where we need to get to at some point. SPEAKER 1: Yeah, we all need to-- [INAUDIBLE] --build more bridges. Yeah, a few more bridges. It takes all of us. SPEAKER 2: Right.

once you beat an ideal global five, the landscape and what shoot us and China key players toward toward that. That's a great question, Jennifer. I think the problem is there's not. There's not a lot of trust, right? So the problem is, there's not trust between the government's. There's not trust in companies on this is a big problem. It's gonna be a bigger problem going forward when we talk about things like quantum computing, which is mentioned earlier, and artificial intelligence. So I have modestly proposed that we need a sort of 1/3 party organization to look at some of these complex technology something like the IAEA does for the nuclear industry and try to try to get the issue out of government to government conflict and government government trust. Look at the techno underlying technology's and focus on that and focus on ways to ensure that the technology can be trusted, because the problem is the political. The geopolitics of issues around five gr really tough toe fall between the countries because of this trust issue, and so I think in an ideal world there would be more collaboration globally on setting standards around five security and on raising the bar for everybody on, then looking at solutions that involved technology and aren't so politicized across the board. And I think that that's where we need to get to at some point. Yeah, we only Yeah, well, Bridges takes Oliver.

It has nothing to do with speed. It's all about money. Really, it's all about money, quite frankly. So let's have a think about this. In the 4G era, 3 and 2G era, the costs for the telecom companies is increasing, the operating costs increases. 5G is cheaper than 4G. SPEAKER 1: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 2: All right. Not at the capital costs, but at the overall perspective, yes? And just now you heard from Clay talking about things like in the enterprises transforming the world. If we look at 5G very specifically in health. Let's take a day in the future. You can have virtual consultations. You can have holographic solutions, all based on 5G. You can't do this in 4G. But everybody in the world thinks 5G is about smartphones, smartphone, smartphone. You're not going to download Spider-Man in three seconds. You don't care about that. You're streaming. SPEAKER 1: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 2: Yeah. SPEAKER 1: OK. Speed is a part of the overall picture here, though, right? SPEAKER 2: Sure. SPEAKER 1: And so what kind of speeds are we talking about? What's possible today? SPEAKER 2: So let's give some examples. I know, you know, we're always the hot topic in the US. But we're delivering about 650 megabits to rural US-- rural economies in the US using 4G. SPEAKER 1: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 2: So now, where's 5G going to take us? 5G-- 1 to 3 gigabits per second, very, very easy to achieve using 5G technology. But again, it's not about the speed. A telecom operator trying to mobile, trying to telecom, trying to film, they can't monetize all this speed to make a user happier or get more money from a user to make more money. SPEAKER 1: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 2: So to monetize speed for what we call "consumers" is very difficult unless you move into gaming or holographs and things like this. But the real money, the real transformation for society-- and that's what 5G is about-- is really moving into the enterprise or the B2B business, in manufacturing or health, for example. What we've never spoken about is that 5G can reduce the carbon footprint. Everybody talks about speed, but we know if we continue to deploy 4G across the world, you will double the carbon footprint of the mobile networks. And if we use 5G, you reduce that.

What is five g? And why should we care? You know, Mikhail, everybody thinks five G's about speed, right? Everybody here thinks five g speed, right? It has nothing to do with speed. It's all about money. Really. It's all about money, quite frankly. So let's have a think about this. In the four G era, three into G era, the cost for the telecom companies is increasing. The operating cost increases. Five g is cheaper than forging. All right. Not that the capital costs, but of the overall perspective. Yes. And just now you heard from Clay. Talking about things like in the Enterprise is transforming the world. If we look at five very specifically in health, let's take a day. In the future, you can have virtual confrontations. You can have holographic solutions all based on five. You can't do this in four G. But everybody in the world thinks five years about you. No smartphone, smartphone, smartphone. You're not going to download Spider Man in three seconds. You don't care about that. You're streaming. Yeah, Okay. Speed is a part of the overall picture here, though, right? I know you know, with what was the hot topic in the US, but we're delivering about 650 megabits to rural US rural economy you're using for G. So now we're five. So to monetize speed for equal consumers is very difficult unless you move into gaming or holograph on things like this. I've met most of the presidents, prime ministers, ministers, regulators, everybody, all the countries, kings and queens. SPEAKER 2: Wow. SPEAKER 1: And this is my explanation and suggestion to them. Change regulatory policy to enable investment, to enable innovation, and you will transform your economy. That's what's required. Here in China, 45,000 5G sites in one city. SPEAKER 2: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 1: In one city. By the end of this year, it'll be three or 400,000 sites just within China. The rest of the world will be similar. Most of that is actually in Europe and in the Middle East. Why the Middle East? Because the governments, the administrations, they understand they can't survive on oil forever, and they have real requirements, and they want to transform. SPEAKER 2: Mm-hmm. SPEAKER 1: Minister of Dubai, I was on stage with him in the World Economic Forum in Dubai. If you listen to his vision and what he wants to fix, understanding technology, including things like AI, not forgetting security, not forgetting privacy, but to have mature discussions about privacy and security rather than scaremongering and saying, oh, we can't trust this-- we can't do that. Collaboration is far better than trying to isolate.

China's understood a couple of things that I've seen since I've been living here and working, and we'll wait for the last 11 years or so. They they understand that to move forward, you need to leverage technology. So which technologies? Artificial intelligence I ot and specifically through while Way five genius. So the Chinese government understands that these technologies are intrinsic to economic growth and industrial development. They understand it, understand it so much that they incentivize. You know, it's it's a bit like how did while we had it, Ali Baba and 10 cents and others move forward. Just go and do it Well, you know how it works. So they encouraged these things in the West. We have a regulator, right? What I see is we have regulations. But in China I see enablement and innovation. It's very different. Helped to make you think others catch up or what would it take? I travel around the world that makes most of the presidents prime ministers, ministers, regulators, everybody all the countries of kings and queens. And this is my explanation and suggestion to them. It will also bring 20 times the speeds, and it will bring much, much lower latency or, like, single digit latency. You know, multiples times, like faster than the blink of an eye. SPEAKER 2: Yeah. SPEAKER 1: So when you look at all of those things in isolation, it's interesting, and we can do a lot with that. But when you start to combine them is where you get fascinating use cases. It's really where the excitement is. Use cases in education and telemedicine, for retail, for businesses, AR/VR is really going to take the world by storm. SPEAKER 2: Right. SPEAKER 1: And each of those things leverages some of the 5G capability in different ways. And AR/VR, in particular, is a great example of something that really doesn't work that well on 4G networks. SPEAKER 2: Right. SPEAKER 1: So you need to have the low latency, that responsiveness, and you need to have the bandwidth in order to make something like that work in our mobile world. SPEAKER 2: Right. Now all of this sounds very cool. SPEAKER 1: Yep. SPEAKER 2: Especially if you're a consumer and you've got a smartphone in your pocket. But some of the things you just mentioned are actually more interesting from a business standpoint. SPEAKER 1: Oh, absolutely. SPEAKER 2: Where do you feel are the biggest opportunities in some of those areas you've discussed for 5G? You know, is it telemedicine, or is it entertainment and AR and things like that? What's the biggest there? SPEAKER 1: There's applications you can think about in almost every vertical. You think about smart manufacturing is something we're particularly excited about. SPEAKER 2: Sure. SPEAKER 1: So how can you take what happens in manufacturing or in warehousing and not just introduce robotics, but introduce virtual reality in a way that people don't have to man the equipment and you can make quick changes? So the possibilities there are really, really endless, being able to pull up, like, a virtual screen. And we think about this in our own environment, because we operate large data centers. SPEAKER 2: Right. Of course. SPEAKER 1: So how can I make changes to hardware without actually being there, but feel like I'm there? SPEAKER 2: Right. SPEAKER 1: That's the promise for manufacturing. Education, I've just got to speak about it. I'm so passionate about it, and I think it's really exciting what can happen there. So we talk about distance learning. We have capability today for distance learning, but it goes beyond just that when you talk about 5G. You can think about really immersive learning. So if you want to learn about the ocean floor, we can make it feel in the classroom like you're actually there. That's the type of environment that we want to create. And we need to work with people. It's not any one place, any one company. It's going to take us all to sort of figure this out.

five g will bring with it, you know, 100 times the capacity of our four G network. It will also bring 20 times the speed, and it will bring much, much lower later. You're like single digit lead, you know, multiple times, like better than a blink of an eye. So when you look at all of those things in an isolation, it's interesting, and we could do a lot with that. But when you start to combine them is where you get fascinating use cases really were the excitement use cases in education and tele medicine for retail for businesses, A R V R is really gonna take the world by world by storm and each of those things leverage is some of the five capability in different ways, and air V R in particular is a great example of something that really doesn't work that well for G network.
