Protein powder has been around for a while now, as it’s a convenient way to boost your protein intake—ideal for those focused on improving muscle strength and recovery. For many high achievers, though, not just any old protein powder will do. Optimization is the name of the game at work and in the gym, and many protein powders now boast formulas designed for those top performers who want high-quality ingredients.

NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate is one of these offerings, advertising “just the essentials” in its “no BS” formula. Curious to see if this relatively simple ingredient list delivers, we asked our testing team to try it. Here’s what Pete, the tester who took on the challenge, had to say after trying NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate.

Why Trust Fortune

Our team of expert testers has tried hundreds of the most popular supplements on the market today, using our comprehensive supplement testing methodology to find the best products for all folks.

Our Experience with NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate

NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate is formulated to support muscle growth and recovery, with the key ingredient being grass-fed whey protein isolate that the company says is “ultra-filtered using low pressure and temperature.” This whey protein is targeted to a general audience, marketed as “Serious enough for the elite. Built for anyone who shows up.”

Pete, a member of our testing team who’s also a certified nutrition coach, tried NOBULL Grass-fed Whey Protein Isolate in the chocolate flavor. Here’s what he said about it.

What We Liked

Pete was very impressed with this product, describing it as a “great protein powder” and giving it the highest score possible in multiple categories.

  • Instructions (5 out of 5): Pete found the directions, which were to mix one scoop with 8 ounces of a cold liquid of your choice, easy to read and follow. He also noted, “The label is black with white text that’s easy to read.”
  • Mixability (5 out of 5): “The product dissolved fully during a 60-second shake,” said Pete, adding, “There wasn’t any clumping of powder or gritty texture. No further shaking was required.”
  • Taste (5 out of 5): Pete was very impressed with the product’s flavor, saying, “This is a great tasting chocolate protein powder. I was excited to try this product after looking at the ingredient list and seeing that the first ingredient was grass-fed whey protein isolate, followed by cocoa. The flavor didn’t disappoint. It has a rich, authentic chocolate flavor.”
  • Sweetness (3 out of 5): Pete said this whey protein had a “great balance of sweetness,” rating it a 3 out of 5 to indicate a “just right” level. Pete explained that the sweeteners used in the formula are stevia leaf extract and reb M, short for rebaudioside M—which comes from the stevia plant.

One other thing Pete appreciated about NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate was its packaging. As Pete said, “NOBULL’s Whey Protein Isolate comes packaged in a resealable bag rather than a more traditional plastic tub. I actually prefer the bag format instead of the standard tub. It takes up less space in the pantry, making it easier to store. The resealable closure also worked well, helping to keep the powder fresh.”

 What We Would Change

Pete liked almost everything about this product, citing only one drawback.

  • Price point (3 out of 5): “It’s a little on the pricier side at $60 dollars for 30 servings,” said Pete, but overall, he felt the cost was justified. The value is there, but the price may still be slightly higher than some prefer to pay.

Who It’s For & Who It’s Not For

Be sure to consult with your healthcare provider to determine whether this product is the right fit for you. Here’s who might consider it, and who may want to avoid it.

People looking for muscle growth and recovery support

Protein is crucial for building muscle, but it can sometimes be challenging to get enough from food alone. Protein powders, like NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate, can make it easy to get a hefty dose of protein before or after a workout.

Adults 18 years old and older

This product should be used by adults only, not children.

Those with lactose sensitivity

Whey protein isolate is different from casein protein or whey protein concentrate, as it typically goes through additional processing to remove more lactose, fat, and carbohydrates—making it suitable for people with lactose sensitivity.

However, those with a severe dairy allergy shouldn’t use this product, as it may still contain trace amounts of dairy.

Why Protein Powder Matters to Professionals

Professionals who are focused on excellence at work often seek excellence in other areas as well, including workout performance, and protein plays a crucial role in muscle growth and recovery. However, it’s not always easy to get enough, which is why protein powders are hugely popular. Some companies differentiate their products by including only high-quality ingredients, which may appeal to executives and others focused on optimization.

Pro Tip

If you’re drawn to whey protein isolate because it’s often suitable for lactose-intolerant individuals, you could also consider a vegan protein powder. Vegan protein powders are helpful for those adhering to a vegan or vegetarian diet, or those looking to make sure there are no traces of dairy whatsoever in their protein powder.

Fortune’s Final Thoughts

Our tester was impressed with this product, noting the straightforward ingredient list, rich flavor, and smooth texture. He also appreciated that it was third-party tested. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but we think the product delivers value and is worth the cost.

Frequently asked questions

Is NOBULL owned by Tom Brady?

Yes, Tom Brady is a co-owner of NOBULL, along with Mike Repole. Tom Brady’s other brands, TB12 and Brady Brand, have also merged with NOBULL.

Is grass-fed whey actually better?

There isn’t sufficient clinical research into this topic to say whether grass-fed whey is better than conventional whey protein. Some non-academic sources say that functionally, whey protein is great for muscle growth and recovery, regardless of whether it comes from grass-fed cows. But there isn’t robust research on this topic to say with certainty whether one is superior. For some people, it’s worth purchasing grass-fed whey protein, and for others, a grass-fed option may not be worth the higher price tag.

Is NOBULL whey protein good?

Our tester concluded that yes, NOBULL Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate is good. Pete loved the flavor, texture, and ingredient list, plus the fact that it’s third-party tested. Of course, we always recommend checking with a healthcare provider before adding any new supplement to your routine, as everyone has unique medical needs and wellness goals.
