Our thoughts: Our tester loved the 3,200 RPM speed for his legs
Who it’s for: Professionals looking for a mini massage gun that delivers surface-level/shallow treatment rather than a deep tissue massage
What makes it different: The battery can last up to six hours

PROS
  • “Incredible” battery life per our tester
  • Compact and travel-friendly
  • Comes with a durable carrying case that also fits all attachments
CONS
  • It took six hours to fully charge for our tester
  • Not for folks who want deep tissue massage
  • You can change the speed, but not force or power

Our Thoughts on Erkin Athletics BANTAM

Erkin Athletics BANTAM is our pick for the best overall mini massage gun because it reaches up to 3,200 RPM, higher than any other massage gun tested by Pete, a certified nutrition coach, former collegiate swimmer, and current CrossFit athlete. The BANTAM has three speeds, four attachments, and a long battery life—up to six hours. The brand also offers a lifetime warranty, free shipping, and returns within 30 days.

Pete, a certified personal trainer (CPT) and certified nutrition coach (CNC), has used many different massage guns over the years. He tested the Erkin Athletics BANTAM for one session that lasted 15 minutes after a leg workout. The Ekrin Bantam has three speed settings: 2,000 RPM, 2,600 RPM, and 3,200 RPM.

“There was a noticeable difference between the three speeds,” Pete said, rating the BANTAM a 4 out of 5 in this category. “And yes, I did feel like I got some good use out of all the settings. I’ve honestly never tried a massage gun that went past 3,000 RPM, and it was pretty crazy! The vibrations were so fast that it barely felt like the device was leaving my body. It felt really good on the bigger muscles in my leg. I used the lowest 2,000 RPM setting for my neck, and the 2,600 RPM setting for my back and shoulders.”

When it comes to force and power, the BANTAM has a stall force of up to 35 pounds at its highest speed. “I didn’t notice any jumping or bouncing when using this product. There were only options to change the speed, not the force or power,” Pete said. He rated it a 4 out of 5 in this category.

Pete rated the amplitude of the BANTAM a 4 out of 5 as well. “The stated depth is to a 10 millimeter amplitude, which is lower than the standard of 16 millimeters. It does feel more like a surface-level/shallow treatment than a deep tissue massage, even at the fastest setting,” Pete said.

Our thoughts: Our tester loved how compact and truly travel-friendly this mini is
Who it’s for: Folks who want two heat options (100 and 107 degrees Fahrenheit) along with their massage
What makes it different: In addition to the other four attachments, it comes with a fifth that has three modes—two heat levels, and one with blue light

PROS
  • Has a heated and a blue light attachment
  • Our tester said the device is very quiet when running
  • Comfortable to hold
CONS
  • Doesn’t come with a carrying case/storage for the device and attachments
  • Took two hours to fully charge

Our Thoughts on Bob and Brad M7 Plus Mini Massage Gun

The Bob and Brad M7 Plus is our pick for the best heated mini massage gun because one of its five attachments offers recovery options: heated therapy at 100 and 107 degrees Fahrenheit, or blue light therapy, which the brand says will support skin rejuvenation. The M7 Plus is the only pick on our list that has a heated option.

Charlotte tested the M7 Plus. She’s an avid runner who weightlifts three times a week. Charlotte used the M7 Plus consistently for a few weeks—she notes that she used it for five-minute sessions over fifteen occasions.

Our tester rated the speed of the M7 Plus a 5 out of 5. It has five different settings, and the PPM range is 2,000 to 3,000 RPM. “The lights on the device indicate which setting it is on, though the speed is not listed anywhere on the mini massage gun itself,” Charlotte said. “I felt a noticeable difference between each speed—in my opinion, none of the speed settings are pointless or unusable.”

Bob and Brad mini massage gun

When it comes to force and power, the M7 Plus is advertised as having a 35-pound stall force. After using it for some time, Charlotte thinks it might be closer to 25 pounds. “I didn’t find it to be super jumpy unless I hit a muscle at a weird angle. If my muscles are super tight, then I find it to be a bit jumpier but not like my experience with much larger massage guns,” she said. There is no option to change the force or the power, just the speed. That being said, Charlotte rated the M7 Plus a 4 out of 5 in this category.

The amplitude is a bit lower than that of a Theragun (even at its mini size). “The M7 Plus reached a depth of 10 millimeters, and that felt adequate for me,” Charlotte said. Additionally, the brand’s specs say the decibel volume of the M7 Plus is 55 dB. Overall, our tester thought this device was “super quiet.” She couldn’t hear it when she walked into another room from her partner, who was using it. “Even the soft music we had playing was audible over the massage gun at its highest setting,” Charlotte said, rating it a 5 out of 5 for sound.

Our thoughts: Our tester liked the device’s ergonomics and found it easy to grip

Who it’s for: Execs looking for a mini massage gun that’s travel friendly, durable, and incredibly quiet, per our tester

What makes it different: The Therabody app has an AI coach for personalized recovery routines

PROS
  • Has a one-year limited warranty
  • It only took one hour to fully charge the device before use
  • Connects with their app for guided massage routines
CONS
  • Stall force is only 20 pounds, the lowest on our list
  • Less included attachments versus our other picks
  • The carrying case only fits the device and one attachment, not all

Our Thoughts on Theragun Mini 3rd Gen

The Theragun Mini 3rd Gen is our pick for the best mini massage gun for travel because it weighs just 0.88 pounds and its dimensions are 4.57 inches by 5.31 inches by 3.78 inches, making it a great size for traveling—it won’t take up much space in your suitcase or work bag.

Pete tested the Theragun Mini 3rd Gen for two days, completing one session of 15 minutes each day. This mini massage gun has 3 speed settings: 1,750, 2,100, and 2,400 PPMs.

Our tester rated the speed of this device a 4 out of 5. “The gun has an LED speed indicator to let you know what setting you’re on. There was a noticeable difference between the speed settings,” he said. “I used the lowest setting for massaging my neck and calves, which are more sensitive areas. And then I used the faster settings for some of my larger muscles, like the quads and hamstrings. I feel like the larger muscle groups need those faster speeds to relieve the muscle tension better.”

Therabody mini massage gun as best mini massag gun

When it comes to power and force, the Mini 3rd Gen has a stall force of 20 pounds, which Pete says is ideal for light recovery rather than deep tissue massage. (If you’re looking for more pressure, the Q2 Mini, up next, has 35 pounds of stall force.) This device only has options to change the speed, not the force or the power, much like some of the other devices on our list. Pete didn’t notice any jumping or bouncing while using this mini massage gun, rating it a 3 out of 5 in this category.

The Mini 3rd Gen has 12 millimeters of amplitude, which is higher than some of our other picks. While still lower than the gold standard of 16 millimeters, Pete says this is “really good” for a compact massage gun. “That said, it’s still more of a surface-level/shallow massage than deep tissue,” Pete said, rating it a 4 out of 5 in this category. Mini massage guns tend to have lower amplitude than their full-size counterparts, so this is not a surprise.

Overall, we think this is a travel-friendly, durable, and incredibly quiet device. “You’re definitely paying for the brand name, design, and portability with this device,” said Pete.

Our thoughts: It’s effective for post-workout recovery while still light enough to toss in a gym bag, per our tester
Who it’s for: Busy professionals who work out regularly
What makes it different: It weighs less than one pound

PROS
  • This model has a two-year extended warranty; requires no additional registration
  • It’s truly lightweight, weighing less than one pound
  • Includes a heated head with infrared LED light for recovery
CONS
  • Has a seven-millimeter depth, so the massage will be shallower rather than deep tissue
  • You can change its speed, but not the force or power
  • The very compact size means that it may be more difficult to reach your mid-back using the device solo

Our Thoughts on Bob and Brad Q2 Mini Massage Gun

The Bob and Brad Q2 Mini Massage Gun is our best budget pick because our tester, Kate, felt it delivers strong value. The gun costs around $90 for five speeds, five attachments (including a heated head with infrared LED for sensitive areas and recovery), and weighs less than a pound. Even though its seven millimeter depth doesn’t compare to full-size deep-tissue models—the gold standard is 16 millimeters—we think the portability and accessories make it incredibly valuable.

Kate tested the Bob and Brad Q2 Mini for two days, completing two sessions of two minutes each day. She is one of our main lab team members and works out four days a week.

Our tester rated the speeds a 4 out of 5. “There are five speeds, and it says that the speed ranges from 1,800 to 3,000 RPM. The manual did not specify the exact PPM for each speed setting, nor was it available on the device. I noticed a difference in every other setting, not as much when I would increase by one level. Even at the weakest level, it still felt effective. I would say my sweet spot was on the third level and anything more than that was a bit too rough,” she said.

Bob and Brad as best mini massage gun

When it comes to power and force, Kate rated the Q2 Mini a 3 out of 5. “The stall force is 35 pounds. There’s only the option to change the speed, not the force or power,” she said.

The amplitude of the Q2 Mini is only seven millimeters, which is much lower than the golden standard of 16 millimeters. Kate rated it a 2 out of 5 in this category.

Overall, Kate thinks that this massage gun is a great portable device, especially for under $100. “It comes with five attachments and a user guide to show you exactly how to benefit the most from this product,” she said. “This is a great choice for someone who doesn’t need the most intense massage relief from the gun and isn’t looking to break the bank.”

Why Workout Recovery Products Matter to Professionals

Workout recovery products, like mini massage guns, can help reduce soreness and aches after intense workouts and long workdays. For business leaders, workout recovery products are tools that can support improved posture, focus, and energy levels, potentially leading to more sustainable, all-around high-performance.

How We Tested and Selected the Best Mini Massage Gun

Finding the right mini massage gun comes down to how it performs in real life: how often you’ll actually use it, how it feels on sore muscles, and if its features justify the price over months or years of use. To identify the best options, testers with different training backgrounds used the devices post-workout, on rest days, or even after long sessions at a computer. They then rated key categories on a 1 to 5 scale and shared detailed feedback.

Battery Life

Testers noted how long the mini massage gun’s charge actually lasted compared with the brand’s stated runtime. They also tracked how often they needed to recharge and how easy it was to understand battery indicators or charging systems.

Massage Quality

To evaluate massage quality, testers focused on amplitude (depth), stall force, and speed range, then described how each gun felt. They noted if the percussion felt deeper or more surface-level, how distinct the speed settings were, and if the device jumped or bounced when extra pressure was applied.

Accessories

Testers also reviewed how many heads came with each device. They evaluated carrying cases and storage, too: Was there enough room for the charger and all its attachments? Did the case feel durable and lightweight enough for travel and daily use? Testers gave higher marks to devices that paired with a small but genuinely useful set of attachments with a sturdy, well-organized case.

Noise Level

Noise ratings were based on how the mini massage guns sounded in everyday environments: while watching TV, in shared spaces, or when used around the neck and shoulders near the ears. Testers reported whether they needed to turn up the volume on the TV, if the device could be heard from another room, and if the sound felt distracting. Quieter mini massage guns that also delivered effective relief scored higher.

Size

Testers considered both the weight and amount of space the mini massage gun took up, paying attention to how easy each gun was to hold for several minutes and if it fit comfortably in a gym bag, backpack, or suitcase.

Value

Each tester rated the mini massage gun on a scale of 1 to 5 based on how well the device’s performance, durability, and features lined up with its price. They weighed factors like attachment quality, battery life, power, and portability against the cost.

How to Find the Best Mini Massage Gun for You

Selecting the best mini massage gun for you will depend on your training volume, pain sensitivity, and travel habits. Here’s what to consider when shopping for the best mini massage gun for you.

Your Body’s Needs

If you’re an athlete or manage dense, tight muscle groups, you may benefit from a higher amplitude (depth) and more stall force in a massage gun for deeper relief. Folks who are new to percussive therapy, have more sensitivity, or mainly want light tension relief can usually get by with less powerful devices.

Speed Options

Look for at least three speeds so you can scale intensity for different body parts: lower settings for neck and forearms, higher ones for quads and glutes. More speeds are only helpful if they feel distinct and usable. A good middle speed that becomes your go-to is often more important than having seven settings you rarely use.

Portability

Frequent travelers may want to prioritize mini massage guns for their lighter weight and more compact size.

Attachments

Mini massage guns often come with up to five attachments, which may range from air-cushion heads, cone tips, dampeners, heated options, and more. The most important aspect is not necessarily the number of attachments but having attachments that you’ll find effective for your individualized needs.

Budget

Higher-end full-size massage guns typically offer stronger motors, better ergonomics, and longer-lasting battery life, which can matter if you use your device most days. Mini massage gun options do still deliver meaningful relief—check the amplitude before purchasing to be sure it suits your preferences.

Benefits of Mini Massage Guns

Mini massage guns can support targeted muscle recovery and reduce tension while on the road, in a hotel room, or during a break at a conference. Mini massage devices can complement other recovery tools, such as a red light therapy panel or sauna blanket.

Therabody massage gun as best mini massage gun

Here are a few benefits:

  • Portability: Mini massage guns tend to be compact and often weigh less than one pound, making it easy to stash in a bag and carry along with you, no matter what your day looks like.
  • Fast relief: They’re great for reducing soreness and muscle tension after a workout or a day at your desk.
  • Quiet operation: Mini massage devices tend to be quieter than a full-size massage gun, which helps for discreet usage wherever you are.

Fortune’s Final Thoughts

Carrying a mini massage device along with you to the office, a conference, or on your next flight can be a great way to reduce tension and recovery on the go—they’re great for fast, customizable relief. The Erkin Athletics BANTAM (our top pick) impressed our tester, a personal trainer and former collegiate athlete, with its high performance and long battery life.

Frequently asked questions

Our team selected Erkin Athletics BANTAM as the best overall mini massage gun as our top pick: it reaches up to 3,200 RPM, has three speeds and four attachments, along with a battery life of up to six hours.

Are mini massagers any good?

Yes, mini massagers can be great for taking along in your suitcase, at the office, and are even small enough to fit in purses or your backpack. While mini massage devices might have a lower amplitude than a full size, we think some of them are still solid for recovery and tension relief.
