Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 election, according to multiplereports.

Walz, who is in his second term as governor, is also the head of the Democratic Governors Association and has a 12-year history in Congress, serving as a Democrat in a largely conservative district. Voters at large probably know him better, however, as the person who labeled leaders of the modern Republican Party as “weird.”

Harris and Walz will appear together for the first time Tuesday evening in Philadelphia.

As governor, Walz has brought progressive policies to Minnesota and cultivated a “regular person” persona that has endeared him to voters on both sides of the aisle. The 60-year-old father of two was chosen over several other, arguably more likely, candidates, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
