NBCUniversal’s Peacock is moving full speed ahead with its July national launch, which will include several original series, according to an announcement by the streamer Thursday.
Viewers will be able to watch the first season of Brave New World, based on the Aldous Huxley novel of the same name, as well as thriller The Capture, and The Intelligence, a workplace comedy featuring “a kind of weedier, geekier, more bureaucratic version of [the U.K.’s] MI5 and MI6.” Sports programming includes documentary In Deep With Ryan Lochte, as well as Lost Speedways, a series created and hosted by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, a movie sequel to the USA Network comedy series and Psych: The Movie, will also be available at launch. Kids’ programming will feature a Curious George animated series, plus Cleopatra in Space and Where’s Waldo?, both from DreamWorks.
The new series will be accompanied by previously established series in the NBCUniversal library, which include comedies like Parks and Recreation and Law & Order: SVU, as well as blockbuster movies, highlights from late-night shows and news programs, and more. A premium version of the service is already available as a preview to Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex customers, while the national launch is set for July 15.
The announcement of Peacock’s original slate comes as TV and film production has stalled amid the coronavirus pandemic, which led to questions about how much new programming would actually be available in time for the service’s launch. Another new streamer, HBO Max, which officially debuts May 27, has already announced two waves of original programming that will roll out over the next couple of months.
