Pranksters rejoice. April Fools’ Day 2017 is almost here. It’s the one day of the year when it’s perfectly acceptable to trick the people around you into believing something that isn’t true before yelling out, “Just kidding! April Fools’!,” “Ha ha ha! April Fools’!,” or — if you’re really clinging to the ’80s — “Psyche! April Fools’!”

No one is exactly sure when the trend of pranking others on the first day of April began; however, some historians trace the tradition all the way back to 1582 and the Council of Trent, which makes perfect sense considering how lighthearted and funny daily life was during the Dark Ages in Medieval Europe. Today, retailers, restaurants stores and businesses honor the day of joking by offering serious discounts, deals and freebies.

April Fool’s 2017 Travel Deals and Discounts

Some of the best April Fools’ Day deals are for travel, airfare and hotels.

  • Buena Park Castle: If you’re planning on traveling, why not travel back in time to Buena Park Castle at Medieval Times? Tickets are just $37.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids with coupon code SBEB17, which is good through the entire month of April.
  • LivingSocial: Pack your bags, party people. You’re going to the Bahamas — and this is no prank. An all-inclusive Melia Nassau Beach Resort package is just $1,180 through April 4.
  • Orbitz: Use coupon code EXPLOREMORE to save an additional 15 percent on select hotel stays.
  • RailEurope: You can get in on April Fools’ Day savings in Europe just like you can in the States. Planning a trip overseas? You don’t need a coupon to save 20 percent on select EuroStar standard premier high-speed train tickets.
  • Thrifty: Use coupon code 101175 to score 10 percent savings on weekend car rentals across all classes of vehicles. Deal expires on April 15.
  • Warner Bros. Studios: Planning a trip to La La Land? You can score Hollywood Studio Tour tickets for just $49 on April Fools’ Day and every day after until May 26.
  • Wilderness at the Smokies: Save 20 percent on new reservations for overnight stays at Stone Hill Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains with coupon code SB17. Deal is valid through May 31.

April Fool’s Day 2017 Deals on Food, Restaurants and Dining

There are plenty of ways to save when you’re hungry this April Fools’ Day.

  • Bob Evans: Buy one entree, get a second one half price when you buy two drinks. Use coupon code 0759002614 through April 9.
  • Marco’s Pizza: Take $4 off orders of $20 or more (before tax) with coupon code 420 through 4/30.
  • Ruby Tuesday: Buy one adult entree, get a second for half price now through April 2.
  • Souplantation: Get a family meal for two adults and two kids with four beverages for $37 through April 5 with coupon code W2679902594C96 — or just scan the code on this coupon. Just make sure you wait until after 4 p.m.

  • Victoria’s Secret: Get a $20 bonus card with a purchase of $40 or more through April 17.

April Fools’ Day Coupons for Everything Else

The offers don’t stop at food, clothing and travel on April Fools’ Day 2017.

  • Amazon: Stock up on everything you need — from fake smartphones to whoopee cushions — to pull a master prank.
  • Best Buy: Save up to 50 percent on brands like Sony and Samsung during Audiofest at Best Buy (BBY), which ends on April 1.
  • H&R Block: New clients can get $25 off on in-office tax preparation through April 10.

  • Sephora: Get a free deluxe sample of Scouted by Sephora with a $25 purchase when you use coupon code DISCOVERY through April 22.

So now you know where to save money on April 1. But guess what? April Fools’! None of these deals or freebies are real. No, just kidding. They’re real.
