Can New Smart Home Products Save Nest?

Will Nest rise again with its new product launch?

Fortune’s digital editor Andrew Nusca and Time’s tech writer Lisa Eadicicco debate Nest’s future after its announcement concerning upcoming products like a cheaper smart thermostat and an all-in-one smart home security system. This would be a good opportunity for Nest to come out of hibernation after its acquisition by Google, Eadicicco says. It can take a bigger position in the smart home industry with this new launch. She adds that the popularity of Amazon’s Alexa may help the company overcome consumer concerns about privacy.

But Nusca doubts the price cut will do much for the company, as smart home gadget buyers would not be the group swayed by the slight price difference. He adds that the company has been going through an unstable time due to chaotic management.
