Donald Trump insisted Sunday that Muslims need to report terrorists, as he answered a question on Islamophobia during the second presidential debate.
The Republican nominee, who had previously proposed enforcing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S., was asked by a young Muslim town-hall participant to address prejudices against Islam and Muslims and how Trump will help millions of Muslims deal with its consequences.
Trump said Islamophobia was a “shame,” adding that “whether we like it or not, there is a problem.” He continued, “When Muslims see something going on, we have to report it.”
Trump would not clearly say he was backing off from his earlier proposed Muslim ban. When asked to clarify his stance by co-moderator Martha Raddatz, Trump said it’s now “called extreme vetting.”
