Alex Rodriguez will not sign with another team for the remainder of this season, his publicist Ron Berkowitz said in a statement.

“I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season: It’s not happening,” Berkowitz said. “Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends.”

Rodriguez was released by the Yankees on Saturday after playing his final game with the team on Friday. He cleared waivers Monday afternoon and officially became a free agent. The 41-year-old hit .200/.247/.351 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs in 65 games for New York this season and is four home runs shy of 700 for his career.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill told reporters Sunday that the team would consider signing Rodriguez, who is a Miami native, in the wake of rightfielder Giancarlo Stanton’s season-ending groin injury. Jon Heyman reported Mondaythat Miami owner Jeffrey Loria had “keen interest” in signing Rodriguez.
