“The divorce is amicable and the pair agreed that Riley would file the petition to end their latest marriage after roughly 2 ½ years,” AP reports. Having reviewed the statement, the newswire adds that the two had been living separately for half a year and that they “plan to remain friends.”
Musk, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal (PYPL), Tesla (TSLA), and SpaceX, had earlier filed to divorce Riley on New Year’s Eve in 2014. He rescinded the request seven months later.
During their first divorce in Jan. 2012, Musk tweeted at Riley that “It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day,” reports People, sister publication to Fortune. Before canceling the process, Musk agreed to give her $16 million in cash and other assets at that time, per the terms of a prenuptial agreement.
Musk and Riley have no children together, though Musk has five sons from an earlier marriage with Canadian author Justine Musk (née Wilson).
