Ted Cruz pulled a surprising victory in Saturday’s Republican nomination contests, winning the Kansas Republican caucuses according to CNN projections.
At face value, Kansas should have been a good state for Donald Trump. It’s a mostly white state with large rural areas, both of which have favored the Republican frontrunner in previous contests.
But perhaps the past few days of Trump shenanigans have actually begun to hurt the candidate. There are certainly plenty of primary states left, but if Cruz can beat Trump in states like Kansas, it could signal that the Texas senator is finally emerging as a candidate who can take on Trump for the nomination.
