When Donald Trump called for a freeze on Muslim immigration to the U.S., one of Hillary Clinton’s closest advisers sent out her own personal response soon after.
In an e-mail message to Clinton supporters, Huma Abedin—a Muslim-American—stood up for her faith.
“I’m a proud Muslim—but you don’t have to share my faith to share my disgust,” she wrote. “Trump wants to literally write racism into our law books. His Islamaphobia doesn’t reflect our nation’s values.”
The Clinton campaign wasn’t about to let a good crisis go to waste and used the e-mail to push supporters to donate more to her presidential campaign.
Fortune has reached out the Trump campaign and will update this story if they respond.
