Facebook announced Tuesday that there’s been an expansion in its Instant Articles platform for the iPhone. There are also more companies making use of the publishing feature. An Android-friendly version is expected later this year, according to the company.
If an article has a lightning bolt in the upper right corner, it’s likely to load 10 times faster. That’s how Facebook is making it clear that a piece of content you’re reading on an iPhone was published using its new Instant Articles platform.
“Instant Articles not only get you to the stories you want to read faster; they also provide a richer reading experience than standard mobile web articles, thanks to dynamic features that make it more fluid, interactive, and immersive,” according to the company. “They were designed to give publishers full control over the look of their stories and include features that bring stories to life in new ways.”
The company listed the media companies already using the platform including: The New York Times, NBC News, The Atlantic, BuzzFeed, National Geographic, Cosmopolitan, Daily Mail, The Huffington Post, Slate, Vox Media, Mic, MTV News, The Washington Post, The Dodo.
Those who are expected to use Instant Articles in the coming months include: Billboard, Bleacher Report, Business Insider, Bustle, CBS News, CBS Sports, CNET, Mashable, Mental Floss, The Onion, TIME, USA Today, Variety, The Verge and The Weather Channel.
