Despite months of rumors, Apple will not be debuting any new Apple TV hardware at its World Wide Developer Conference next week, reports the New York Times. If that is in fact the case, that will be sure to disappoint legions of Apple fans and streaming media aficionados eagerly waiting for the Cupertino, Calif.-based giant’s next foray into the set-top-box market.
Just last month, the paper reported on an improved Apple remote, leading many to think that was leading up to a new box. Other rumors suggested a new Apple box would also possibly control smart devices in users’ homes such as connected lightbulbs and thermostats. The news comes just days after Re/code reported that Apple also won’t be introducing a new Apple TV service this week, putting a damper on whispers that a service to rival Roku and Hulu would be launching.
