Google has a weird new way of buying patents

Apparently, Google (GOOG) is looking to swallow up as many patents as possible, and the company is going so far as to create a special online portal to let inventors sell their patents directly to the company.

The portal is only temporary, and will be open from May 8 to May 22, reports Reuters. Potential sellers can go into the program and tell Google what the patent is, what they’re willing to sell, and what the price is.

By June 26, Google will let sellers know if it’s interested, and the sales will be finalized in August.
