Earlier this week, Lennar Corp. reported sharply higher earnings for the three months ending in August -- a sign that there's stronger demand for new homes. The Miami-based company reported a profit of $87.1 million, up from $20.7 million a year ago. Revenue rose by 34% to 1.1 billion. This comes as builders broke ground on new single-family homes at an annual pace of 535,000 in August -- the highest rate since April 2010 when federal tax credits designed to stimulate the housing market lured buyers, according to the Commerce Department's September 19 report. Lennar CEO Stuart Miller said in statement that "the market has stabilized and the recovery is well under way," citing record-low mortgage rates, affordable home prices, and the fact that it's cheaper to own than rent.Lennar is a home builder based in Miami, Florida, that's enjoying a rebound from the housing recovery.
