Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO) has emerged as the leading contender to acquire LifeTechnologies (Nasdaq: LIFE), a maker of DNA- sequencing equipment and lab materials, according to Reuters. The company’s market cap has now surpassed $11 billion, with a private equity consortium of Blackstone, Carlyle and Temasek still in the process. www.lifetechnologies.com
