MidOcean Partners has acquired a “significant equity position” in Noranco Inc., a Toronto-based maker of metal components, kits and assemblies for landing gear, aero structure, and aero engine applications to the aerospace industry. No financial terms were disclosed. www.noranco.com

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO) has emerged as the leading contender to acquire LifeTechnologies (Nasdaq: LIFE), a maker of DNA- sequencing equipment and lab materials, according to Reuters. The company’s market cap has now surpassed $11 billion, with a private equity consortium of Blackstone, Carlyle and Temasek still in the process. www.lifetechnologies.com
