Patent filing may reveal iPod features, iPhone basics

AppleInsider has the most detailed information I’ve seen on a device patent that appears to come from Apple Computer (AAPL). It seems to be for a large-screen, pocketable media player with no buttons, and controls along the outside frame of the device. It appears from the filing that the interface could be used for a multimedia and/or communication device.

This would be a departure from the iconic iPod scroll wheel, but would also be the fulfillment of full-screen video iPod rumors. It would also answer the niggling question that came with the full-screen iPod: how do you include controls without constantly smudging the screen?
