Skype’s browser version of its popular call and messaging app just got a bunch of upgrades.
The Microsoft-owned (MSFT) online calling service said on Monday that its Skype for Web product now has several new features designed to make it more similar to its apps, which users must download.
The new features are geared toward people who use a shared computer that doesn’t contain the Skype desktop app as well as people who prefer using the service in a web browser, according to a Skype blog post.

Users can now call mobile phones and landlines directly from Skype for Web just like they would using the app. Additionally, if someone sends a YouTube video link to a Skype for Web user via Skype’s chat interface, Skype for Web users should be able to watch the flick from their web browser as well, the post explained.
Skype also added a feature letting users chat with non-Skype users via a “unique conversation URL” that will generate when someone presses a new “Share conversation” icon.
Finally, Skype touted it added notification features to its Skype for Web product so that “you’ll receive notifications, even if you’re in another browser tab or another app.”
