Hortonworks, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based developer of open-source Apache Hadoop technologies, has raised $50 million in new VC funding. Tenaya Capital and Dragoneer Investment Group co-led the round, and were joined by return backers Benchmark, Index Ventures and Yahoo.www.hortonworks.com

Skyonic Corp., an Austin, Texas-based builder of new and retrofittable plants that produce carbon-negative chemical products, has raised $128 million in Series C funding. Cenovus Energy, BlueCap Partners, Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Co. and Energy Technology Ventures were joined by return backers Berg & Berg Enterprises, Northwater Capital Management, ConocoPhillips, BP Ventures, PVS Chemicals and Zachry Corp. www.skyonic.com

Meyion Medical Systems Inc., a Littleton, Mass.-based developer of single-room proton therapy systems for the treatment of cancer, has raised $55 million in new venture equity and debt funding. EMN8 Inc., a San Diego-based provider of digital ordering and engagement platforms for quick-service restaurants, has raised $50 million in new VC funding. Sid R. Bass Associates led the round, and was joined by Allegis Capital. Some of the proceeds will go toward the recent acquisition of Snapfinger Inc., an Alpharetta, Ga.–based provider of remote ordering platforms for casual dining. No financial terms were disclosed.
