Uber’s SVP for policy and communication Rachel Whetstone has only been at the company for slightly less than a year, but the executive has reportedly already gone to great lengths to shake up the policy and communications team.
Whetstone, who had a similar role at Google, has snapped up at least five staffers from the Google policy team. At the same time, a number of staffers on the Uber team have departed or been laid off, according to Re/code.
The ranks of departing Uber staffers include high-profile hires like Matt McKenna, a former spokesperson for Bill Clinton, who joined the company last year when Whetstone’s predecessor, former Obama adviser David Plouffe, ran the policy and communications team.
Whetstone is known for often taking a combative role toward critics of her employers, Re/code reported.
