Joe Montana is aiming to score big as a venture capitalist.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer is in the process of closing a new investment fund for his venture capital firm, Liquid 2 Ventures, according to a regulatory filing on Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The document indicates that it will be a $25 million fund without providing further details. Montana is the firm’s managing partner, according to the filing.
Montana is no stranger to investing. He has an ownership stake in the sports app company GameOn, which he and fellow NFL veteran NFL player Lawyer Milloy invested in as part of that company’s $1.5 million seed round. Montana, who makes occasional appearances at Silicon Valley startup incubator Y Combinator, has also invested personally in hot tech startups Pinterest and Dropbox, according to Business Insider.
