PeopleMatter, a workforce management platform for the service industry, has raised $16 million in Series E funding. StarVest Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers C&B Capital, Harbert Venture Partners, Intersouth Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, Noro-Mosley Partners and Scale Venture Partners. www.peoplematter.com

Cyphort Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based threat monitoring and mitigation platform, has raised $15.5 million in Series B funding. Trinity Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Foundation Capital and Matrix Capital. www.cyphort.com

Pivot3, an Austin, Texas-based provider of video surveillance and virtual desktop converged infrastructure storage appliances, has raised more than $14 million in new VC funding. InterWest Partners and Mesirow Financial Capital Partners co-led the round, and were joined by existing backers Focus Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Silver Creek Ventures, Northleaf Ventures and Wilson Sonsini. www.pivot3.com

Paxata, a Redwood City, Calif.-based provider of an adaptive data preparation platform, has raised $8 million in Series B funding led by Accel Partnerswww.paxata.com

Applauze, a Mountain View, Calif.-based events listing app, has raised $7.2 million in VC funding. Backers include True Ventures, m8 Capital and individual angels. www.applauze.com

Altia Systems, a Cupertino, Calif.-based video and web collaboration startup, has raised a total of $6.7 million in VC funding from firms like Naya Ventureswww.altiasystems.com

Middle Peak Medical, a developer of devices for treating mitral valve disease, has raised $3 million in new Series A funding. The round now totals $11 million, including an earlier close. BioMedInvest was joined on the new tranche by existing backers Wellington Partners and Seventure Partners. The company has offices in Germany and Silicon Valley.
