Hortonworks, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based developer of open-source Apache Hadoop technologies, has raised $50 million in new VC funding. Tenaya Capital and Dragoneer Investment Group co-led the round, and were joined by return backers Benchmark, Index Ventures and Yahoo.www.hortonworks.com

Skyonic Corp., an Austin, Texas-based builder of new and retrofittable plants that produce carbon-negative chemical products, has raised $128 million in Series C funding. Cenovus Energy, BlueCap Partners, Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Co. and Energy Technology Ventures were joined by return backers Berg & Berg Enterprises, Northwater Capital Management, ConocoPhillips, BP Ventures, PVS Chemicals and Zachry Corp. www.skyonic.com

Meyion Medical Systems Inc., a Littleton, Mass.-based developer of single-room proton therapy systems for the treatment of cancer, has raised $55 million in new venture equity and debt funding. Returning equity backers include Caxton Heath Life Sciences, ProQuest Investments, Venrock and CHL Medical Partners. Life Sciences Alternative Funding provided the debt financing. www.mevion.com

EMN8 Inc., a San Diego-based provider of digital ordering and engagement platforms for quick-service restaurants, has raised $50 million in new VC funding. Sid R. Bass Associates led the round, and was joined by Allegis Capital. Some of the proceeds will go toward the recent acquisition of Snapfinger Inc., an Alpharetta, Ga.–based provider of remote ordering platforms for casual dining. No financial terms were disclosed. Snapfinger had been seeded by Norwest Venture Partners. www.emn8.com

Vormetric
, a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of data-centric security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, has raised $15 million in new VC funding. Split Rock Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Quicksilver Ventures, JK&B Capital and Sigma Partners.www.vormetric.com

Planet Labs, a provider of satellite-based mapping solutions, has raised $13 million in Series A funding.Draper Fisher Jurvetson led the round, and was joined by OATV, Capricorn Investment Management, Founders Fund, Data Collective, Innovation Endeavors and First Round Capital.

Urturn, a London-based social platform for self-expression, has raised $13.4 million in VC funding led by Balderton Capital. www.urturn.com

Complix, a Belgian developer of protein therapeutics active against intracellular disease targets, has raised €12 million in Series B funding. Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Biotech Fund Flanders and GIMV co-led the round, and were joined by return backers LRM, OMNES Capital, Vesalius Biocapital, Gemma Frisius Fund, TrustCapital, Vinnof, Baekeland Fund and CRP-Santé.www.complix.com

Inadco, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based native digital ad startup, has raised $11 million in Series B funding.U.S. Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by return backer Redpoint Ventures.www.inadco.com

Metacloud Inc., a Pasadena, Calif.-based provider of an on-demand private cloud-as-a-service solutions, has raised $10 million in Series A funding. Canaan Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Storm Ventures and AME Cloud Ventures. www.metacloud.com

DataTorrent, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of cloud computing infrastructure, has raised $8 million in Series A funding led by August Capital. www.datatorrent.com

Brit + Co., a San Francisco-based media company focused on DIY ideas for “creative living in the digital age,” has raised $6.3 million in Series A funding. Oak Investment Partners led the round, and was joined by Index Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Cowboy Ventures and returning angel investors like Marissa Mayer. www.brit.co

NuMedii, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based developer of predictive big data technology for discovering and de-risking new drugs, has raised $3.5 million in Series A funding. Claremont Creek Ventures andLightspeed Venture Partners co-led the round, and were joined by Life Science Angels.www.numedii.com

Ludei, a San Francisco-based HTML5 platform that brings native performance and features to mobile developers, has raised $1.5 million in funding led by Spanish VC firms Kibo Ventures and Vitamina K.www.ludei.com

BabyList, a San Francisco-based provider of an online baby gift registry that allows users to add items from any store onto one registry, has raised $620,000 in seed funding from 500 Startups, Okapi Venture Capital, Altair Capital and individual angels. www.babyli.st
