Due to faulty airbags made by Japanese company Takata, more than 14.5 million vehicles made by 10 different automakers have been recalled since 2013. Toyota announced that it is leading the effort to fund a third-party investigation into the problem. Because Toyota relied less on Takata products than some competitors, Toyota says it did not incur large financial damage from the recall and expects 2014 to be its most profitable year ever.
