[MUSIC PLAYING] Hello, and welcome to Tech Debate, the show where we discuss the issues of the day in two minutes. Today, we're talking about Mark Zuckerberg, who is testifying in front of Congress about serious issues like Russian meddling in the election and mishandling user's data. Lisa Marie, what do you think? Is all of this scandal going to result in big changes for the company? I really don't think it's going to see any big changes, at least not anytime soon. I think that Congress has really struggled with actually asking Zuckerberg the right questions. And they seem to not really understand what Facebook is, what it does. So it's hard for them to really hold Zuckerberg accountable. Right. But you see some models of regulation already floating around out there, even if the questions they're asking aren't exactly pointed or displaying a lot of tech knowledge. The EU has some pretty serious regulations that would tax profit in a big way. And then there's the Honest Ads Act, which would change how a lot of advertising on Facebook works. That seems like decent sized changes that have the potential to really happen. Yeah. I don't know if the problem's so much as ads so much is how data is used. But in terms of the EU, the EU and the US are very different. And here, we've had a lot of lawmakers that don't really want regulation. So if they don't have a consensus on imposing any regulation, how are they going to see it through? Right. But what about consumers? If it's not regulators, pressure to change might come from consumers. #DeleteFacebook is already trending. You have a lot of people, particularly younger users, who think Facebook is kind of uncool and are moving to other apps like Snapchat, kind of the more freewheeling social media companies. Yeah. I mean, time will tell with younger users, but we haven't really seen a drop in Facebook's active users, and Instagram has really been beating Snapchat, which is also owned by Facebook, of course. Right. Not that a lot of people know that. Right. But so we'll see, but it doesn't seem like they're following up yet. And so far, we had #DeleteUber awhile back, and people didn't really follow up on that, either. Right. But you do see Mark Zuckerberg himself kind of saying that he would be open to change. He says that he would potentially take more responsibility for the media that is on his platform, which would be a big change for the company. Yeah. But he hasn't made any definitive statements.
