It's been one year since Fortune sent the email sending all of its employees to work from home are one year later. Project looks at the ways that the pandemic has changed our personal lives. Companies and industries Here are some of the areas we decided to investigate the way we eat. I looked at this almost a year ago as well, and at that time we were really into stockpiling basics and we were really, really into comfort food. And one of the most surprising things I found a year later is the fact that around the world, in all of these different places from, you know, Hong Kong, Tel Salvador to the U. S. People are really obsessed with eating healthy. If you're more concerned than ever that you're eating, right, if the comfort food isn't cutting it anymore, you're part of a global trend. Working parents. Now the challenges are you know, how do I find child care at all when all child care providers and centres are closed? And how do I decide whether or not to send my child to a daycare facility or to school when that could potentially risk the health of my family and my Children taking a look at inequality. Inequality was a problem in America and globally before the pandemic ever arrived, and it made things worse in so many ways. Some people have less access to health care and less access to good information. It made things worse because some people had jobs that were more impacted than others spending patterns. So as I analyzed consumption patterns in the past year, it became clear to me that consumers were going from one shortage to another products, whether it be Clorox wipes the gym equipment to heating, last for restaurants to coins. Even in the summer, you couldn't get any coins of sores. Uh, it was just one year of shoppers meeting to be flexible and patient for what they needed to come back in stock. The rise of Tiktok This APP has really exploded over the past year during the pandemic, when people really wanted, you know, connection and to talk to other people and enjoy some of their endless free time that they had because of the pandemic Remote schooling for kids In general, it seems there is emerging evidence that not going to school can be kind of good for them. So that's one of the big things that we're going to have to work out after the pandemic is over. What do we learn from this? What do we do differently going forward? Um, that could potentially actually lead to better outcomes for kids if maybe we didn't scheduled and quite so harsh our relationship with time. I think it's a fairly common experience for everyone during the past year to have forgotten what day it is or to feel like you're living in Groundhog Day. There have been some researchers that looked at this, and sure enough, they found that an overwhelming number of people, like 80% have reported feeling like time is distorted, not how we usually experience that. Interestingly, 40% of people felt like time is going faster in the pandemic. Another 40% felt like it was going slower. The college experience from talking to people, students, parents looking at the research and so forth. It became very clear that what the pandemic has eliminated or throttled way back are exactly the most valuable parts of the college experience work from home. No surprise. After a year of everybody working from home. There's a lot of research out there about people feeling isolated, and that I think is kind of concerning in the long run and I can speak from my own experience. I think eventually we are going to have to find a way. Did you get back to working face to face with each other the way we work out? One really interesting data point that I came across is that this is a trend that really might outlast the pandemic. 76% of consumers have tried working out from home and 66% of them prefer it. Life won't go back to the way that it exactly was before the pandemic. Our routines have been disrupted and we know that many of those changes are here to stay, for better or for worse.
