Fintech giant PayPal scored high on our rankings for age dispersion, board independence, and board expertise. John Donahoe, president and CEO of Nike, is PayPal's board chairman. The company counts current president and CEO Dan Schulman among its directors, as well as Ann Sarnof, CEO of WarnerMedia Studios & Networks Group; Enrique Lores, CEO of HP; Gail McGovern, CEO of the American Red Cross; and the former CEOs of Freddie Mac and AT&T. Belinda Johnson, former COO of Airbnb, and Rodney Atkins, a former IBM executive, are also board members. PayPal has in recent years increased its efforts to invest in underserved communities. The company has spent $510 million since 2020 to fund Black- and Latinx-owned financial institutions and to back early-stage VC funds led by Black and Latinx managers, with the goal of closing the racial wealth gap. Editor's note: This writeup has been corrected to include Nike CEO and president John Donahoe.
