CVS, the retail and pharmacy giant that ranks fourth on the Fortune 500, scored high on gender equality, board independence, and ESG. Karen Lynch was named CEO in February 2021 and has said the company is “pivoting to become more central to America’s health care.” The company recently made the decision to raise its minimum wage to $15. CVS counts the former CEOs of Chiquita Brands; AT&T; Becton, Dickinson; Johnson & Johnson; PCS Health Systems; and Applied Biosystems among its directors. The board also has two members with high-level government experience: Nancy-Ann DeParle is the former deputy chief of staff and director of the White House Office of Health Reform, and Mary Schapiro is a former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Editor's note: An earlier version of this post misspelled the name of Nancy-Ann DeParle.
