In 2005, Anita Worden and her husband James spun Solectria Renewables off from their electric and hybrid vehicle company with the idea that they could supply solar energy to neighborhoods. The firm grew steadily during the recession, and it benefitted from federal stimulus funds. Today, Solectria Renewables is the fifth-largest U.S. manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters, string combiners, and web-based monitoring systems for residential and commercial use.
