New York Life had a relatively uneventful 2018—not necessarily a bad thing for an insurance company. With $311.5 billion in assets, the life insurer brought in $43.4 billion in revenue, a 2.7% increase, and $880 million in profits, making profits a relatively small 2% of revenue. One of just a handful of mutual companies to appear on the Fortune 500, New York Life dropped two spots on the list this year.
