Each Friday at 5 p.m., employees at Yelp, a company that hosts crowd reviews of businesses, put down their phones and head over to toast the end of the week with free beer. At Yelp, the free stuff flows: there’s lunch and breakfast foods in the office fridge every day, a Yelp barista to make specialty coffee, equity for all full-time employees and – perhaps most extravagantly – an all-expenses-paid trip to a beach resort for the best-performing salespeople. Employees also laud the company’s friendly environment that breeds happiness, where executives sit in the open space alongside other employees.
