At Salesforce, a cloud-based software company based in San Francisco, philanthropy is part of the culture. Each employee is allowed 48 hours of paid time off for volunteering, and Salesforce picks one employee each year to take leave from their day job and work for the Salesforce Foundation Fellowship. In 2014, Salesforce donated $85 million. “Our 15th birthday this year is a perfect example,” says one employee. “We donated over 15,000 pounds of food to the San Francisco food bank.” But there’s still plenty to go around for employees, who enjoy free breakfasts and lunch, subsidized gym memberships and transportation, fitness classes, and a program that offers resources to employees expecting a child.
