One of the largest oil pipeline and terminal operators in the nation, NuStar has deep ties to community service. Founder and chairman Bill Greehey started a homeless-transformation campus called Haven for Hope and invites NuStar employees to prepare food and serve it to the homeless in the summer months for a barbecue and at Christmastime for a holiday dinner. “Even the highest levels of executive management participate in charity events,” says one employee. The company also pitches in at United Way, “lending” executives to the charity for several months each year, while 100 percent of employees donate to the organization.
