New York’s largest private employer and health care provider cares for more than 2 million people in the New York metro area every year. In response to two specific traumas at a Labor and Delivery unit in a Northwell facility involving mothers and children, execs organized Team Lavender, a rapid-response team of social workers, chaplains, nurses, integrative therapists, and others to promote and provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support to employees (72% of whom are women). “We are both the providers and the customers,” says one employee. The idea is to promote self-care in the face of trauma to further support patients, employees, and the community.
