This building materials outfit is the fifth-largest producer of wallboard and the eighth-largest cement manufacturer in the U.S., so you’d imagine it was pretty happy when the nation’s cement consumption increased by 4% last year. Eagle’s own cement sales increased by 6%, while shipments of the company’s wallboard increased by 8%, together boosting revenues by over 40%. Roughly half of that revenue increase was attributable to the timely acquisition of two cement plants in late 2012, but the rest was down to higher selling prices and increased sales volumes. —N.S.
