Again, shale is dominating! When you have oil, you’re going to need tank cars to transport the oil and American Railcar Industries will be there when that happens. From 2010 to 2013, demand for rail cars increased by 1,300% because pipe infrastructure doesn’t yet exist in many areas of the U.S. and Canada to transport the oil to refineries. Even Warren Buffett owns a piece of the railroad tank cars with Berkshire Hathaway’s Union Tank Car. Thanks to the U.S. shale boom, American Railcar Industries boasted $751 million in revenue and $387 million in profit last year. —V.G.
