As CEO of Bidvest, Madisa oversees a broad, highly diversified portfolio of businesses with $6 billion in revenue and more than 121,000 employees. The decentralized firm operates like Berkshire Hathaway, relying on local managers to run its portfolio companies, which range from freight to pharmaceuticals. That makes Madisa, just 41, Bidvest’s Warren Buffett. The portfolio’s assets are highly cash generative and capital light. Madisa’s first full year leading the group coincided with the pandemic, but financial results were strong across the group, with revenues up 15.4% over the previous year, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Madisa also focused on expense control, portfolio clean-up, and expanding the group through acquisitions like PHS, a hygiene services firm operating in Europe, as well as Interact, an Irish technical service provider, and Axis, a U.K.-based security company.
