Founded in 1933, Woods Hardware/Acme Lock is a four-generation, family-owned locksmith and hardware company. It operates with a simple motto: Bringing Local back to Hardware. It does so via its four retails stores which serve as community centers that happen to sell hardware. The Covington-based company also provides a wide variety of locksmith services to businesses and residents in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Woods Hardware/Acme Lock leveraged its designation as “essential business” to keep its stores open and its employees on payroll. It used its PPP loan to buy essential supplies such as masks, sanitizers, and protective gears to ensure the safety of its staff and customers. Additionally, during Black Lives Matter protests, the downtown Cincinnati store served as a center of peace for thousands of people marching. The storefront was used to pass out waters, masks, and food.
