Gazprom, Russia’s natural gas export monopoly, enjoyed a strong 2017 and should expand on that growth thanks to its status as the top fuel supplier to Europe. In 2018, Russia and the European Union resolved a seven-year-old anti-trust dispute that gives European gas buyers more leeway in choosing imports—including Russia’s lower cost alternatives. Europe gets about a third of its gas from Russia. So Gazprom, whose shipments to that market hit an all-time high last year, will likely see its sales continue to rise.
