The Japanese mutlinational automotive manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan is one of Japan’s biggest automakers and one of the world’s largest by production. Mitsbubishi is one-third owned by Nissan as of October 2016 in the wake of the emissions scandal. The corporation began selling cars in 1917 under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, but spun off on its own. During the 1970s, the company began selling cars and powertrains in the United States under the Chysler brand. As of 2015, a majority of the company’s operating income derives from its European and Asian market, as of 2015. Asia accounts for one-third of total sales volume.
