The French energy multinational is in the middle of a critical transition period. A longtime gas monopoly, Engie — formerly GDF Suez — rebranded itself in April last year to reflect the company’s new commitment to low-carbon energy. Engie backed up the name change by acquiring Solairedirect a few months later, making it France’s top solar producer. And in May this year, new CEO Isabelle Kocher announced plans to gradually nix Engie’s coal production. The company’s ability to continue navigating France’s changing energy market will determine whether it can rebound from a nearly $5 billion revenue dropoff last year.
