One of China’s two state-owned utilities, China Southern is responsible for the country’s southern provinces. Like its cousin State Grid, number No. 2 on Fortune’s Global 500 list, China Southern is focused on building a sustainable power grid, even though China still remains largely addicted to coal-generated electricity. The government’s last policy-defining five-year plan put an emphasis on building power generation to the poorer western provinces from the richer eastern regions with a project that is being built China Southern.
