Kroger, the largest U.S. supermarket operator, has reported same-store sales growth for 45 straight quarters through spring 2015, helped by its reputation for excellent customer service and its loyalty program. And its hot streak looks set to continue: one leading Wall Street analyst expects Kroger to surpass high-end rival Whole Foods as the top seller of organic and natural food within two years. On the lower end, its stable of private label products helps Kroger keeps prices for many items low so it can compete with Wal-Mart Stores, the largest U.S. grocer, and Target. Kroger is expanding into affluent areas of markets like Baltimore and Washington, D.C., leading many analysts to surmise that its growth story will continue for some time.
