    Banks: Commercial and Savings

Spain’s largest bank, and one of the largest in Europe, Banco Santander has rebounded from the economic crisis in its home country. Profits are rising, and scion Ana Botin, who took over last year from her late father, is shaking up management. She has also raised capital and improved the bank’s financial condition. Auto lending in the U.S. has been a bright spot. But Botin will have to make amends with U.S. banking regulators, who have failed the Spanish bank’s U.S. division twice on its stress tests. She will also have to deal with an uncertain Brazilian and Latin American economy, where Santander has traditionally been strong.
