AXA appears to have taken out some insurance against Europe’s woes. Sales and earnings have been growing for the giant insurance company, though a good portion of that growth came from the fact that the euro has been weak. In dollars, revenue and earnings at AXA fell in 2014. Sales of insurance products were up in Asia. But the company’s biggest boost came from its U.S. asset management unit Alliance Bernstein, which benefitted from the continued rise in the U.S. stock market. Revenue at the company’s asset management unit rose 23%. Like other European insurers, though, AXA may have a tough road ahead. Low interest rates in Europe will make investment returns hard to achieve.
