Shares of the Pentagon’s top weapons supplier reached a high on the cusp of the 2018 midterm elections, only to fall after the GOP was swept from power in the House. Since then, things have looked up for the Maryland company, whose diversified portfolio includes everything from NASA’s InSight Lander (which touched down on Martian soil last year) to a booming F-35 aircraft business that produced 91 fighters in 2018, an increase of 25 jets from the year prior. With $53.8 billion in annual sales and a record-setting $130 billion backlog, 2018 was a momentum-building year for Marillyn Hewson-led Lockheed. With more than three dozen F-35s delivered to international customers last year, that trajectory is likely to continue—regardless of what happens in Washington.
